WE DONT NEED THE ADDED POLLUTION AND ITS EFFECTS

FWAG will be presenting comprehensive arguments against the development proposals at a public hearing on 16th August at 10am, but are acutely aware that the scope of Council Planners is restricted in deciding on the future of the Westfield site.

"The problem is that in deciding on the Best Practical Environmental Option, the question of whether a local authority is short of cash is a matter for consideration, but the question of whether the people of a community are disproportionately poor or sick is not. The correlation between these two issues is overlooked. This is a gross injustice."

"Even the latest high-tech landfill liners will leak if exposed to substances contained in household rubbish. The only way to avoid this is to remove these substances at source. If this was combined with a drive to reduce unnecessary waste, there would be no need for mixed waste recycling plant, and the lifespan of Scotland's landfill capability would be multiplied."
